Climate

Dubai has a sub tropical, arid climate, and sunny blue skies and high temeratures can be expected most of the year. Rainfall is infrequent and irregular, falling mainly in winter - November to March (13 cm per year). Temperatures range from a low of around 10 C (50 F), to a high of 48 C (118 F) in summer! The mean daily maximum is 24 C (75 F) in January, rising to 41 C (106 F) in July.

During the winter there are occasional sandstorms (the wind is known as the 'shamal'), when the sand is whipped up off the desert. More surprisingly, winter mornings can be foggy, although the sun inevitably burns the cloud away by mid-morning. The most pleasant time to visit is in the cooler winter months, since the summer humiditycan be a killer - approaching 100% - prepare to sweat.

Dubai ..... shaped by tide and wind, as old as forever, as new as the moment .....

Dubai grew up around the creek, a natural inlet from the gulf which has served as a safe harbour for the dhows of traders, fishermen and pearl divers for generations. The heart of the city, the Creek seperates Deira district from Bur Dubai.

Passing between Deira and Bur Dubai, the Creek winds inland for some 10 kilometers.

Al Maktoum Bridge, one of the three crossing points on the Creek. In the foerground can be seen Dubai Law Courts and Creekside Park.
